The Feeding Leaf pairs married couple Les & Tracey Apoliona, and Chef Scott Hiraishi all whom have a passion to promote local Hawai’i Island producers.Together, they have built a network with Ranchers and Farmers and a partnership with Hawai’i Organizations in an effort to promote and support self-sufficiency and sustainability on Hawai’i Island. Most recently, this team have partnered with organizations such as the Department of Agriculture, the Big Island Visitors Bureau, the Hawai’i Coffee Association, the Keauhou Farmers Market and the Kamehameha Schools Land Asset Division, on events that highlighted the use of products from Hawai’i Island. This dynamic team follows the basic principles of “Work Hard… and Laugh Plenty” in all that they do.Along with the promise to provide exceptional food and even better service, is the challenge for the clients to enjoy the collaboration as much as this team does. Collectively, with each of them having over 20 years of experience in their respective fields, they bring together a unique combination of skill sets.
Les Apoliona, having spent most of his career in the hospitality industry, most recently expanded his skill set in the Agricultural arena. Serving as the Chief Financial Officer, with a strong Operations, Sales & Marketing background, Les has been a big supporter and champion of the “small farmer”, having supported and promoted over 50 Farmers and Ranchers at local Hawai`i events. Tracey Apoliona has been coordinating events for at least 10 years.A stickler for details, Tracey is able to multitask and pays close attention to the needs of the client.(As the partners say, “Tracey’s in charge!”)A Human Resources and Accounting professional by trade, Tracey uses her skills with being able to work with people as she functions as the Chief Executive Officer. In the kitchen, Executive Chef Scott Hiraishi has a way with using local ingredients and preparing them with skill and care. With an infectious smile, Chef Scott brings a “light” to his cooking and his enthusiasm for Hawai’i Island Sustainable Cuisine.
This team is directly responsible for and have found success in local Hawaii Island events which include:The Hawai’i Island Ranchers Dinner, Roast & Roots, the Chocolate Soiree and the fundraiser event for the Waipi`o Tea House benefiting Pohaha I Ka Lani.
